Ask any principal why Olympiads work and you will hear the same answer: students love a fair challenge, a clear score and a chance to be recognised beyond their own classroom. A climate championship takes that proven format and points it at one of the most important skills of this century.
Why the Olympiad format works
- Clear goals. Students know exactly what they are working towards.
- Fair comparison. Everyone in a grade faces the same challenge.
- Recognition beyond school. District, state and national rankings make effort visible.
NEP 2020 explicitly supports Olympiads and competitions with progression from school to national level, which is why schools are comfortable adopting the format.
What makes a climate championship different
A traditional Olympiad scores answers on a test day. Climate leadership cannot be measured that way, because the goal is action. So a climate championship combines two things:
- Knowledge, checked through short daily quizzes.
- Action, proven through observations, missions and reflections that teachers verify.
The result is a score that reflects what a student understands and what they actually did.
How ICLC works, day by day
The India Climate Leadership Championship (ICLC) runs for 11 days for students in Class 4 to 9.
- Daily quiz (about 8 minutes). Ten quick questions that earn the day's leadership stamp.
- Observations (3 days). Students notice and record something real, such as how much water a dripping tap wastes.
- Missions (5 days). Students change something and report back, for example by getting their family to sort waste.
- Reflection. A short note in the student's own words about what they learned.
- Teacher verification. Teachers check every observation, mission and reflection, so every score is earned.
Each class has its own leadership level, from Explorer in Class 4 (I notice) to Proposer in Class 9 (I build), so challenges always match the student's age.
Leaderboards and awards
Scores count at four levels: school, inter-school, inter-state and national. The best students and schools win the National Climate Leadership Awards, including National Climate Leader for the top student in each grade and Climate Champion School for schools with the strongest participation. Leaderboards show only a student's first name, grade and school. See the rankings preview.
What every student takes home
- A Climate Passport with 11 leadership stamps
- A cognitive skills report on six thinking skills
- A verified national certificate with a QR code
Together with six more bonuses, these are worth ₹7,900 for an early-bird entry of ₹499 per student. See everything a student gets.
How should students prepare?
There is no syllabus to cram. The best preparation is curiosity: noticing taps, bins, lights and trees at home and in school. Students who want a warm-up can try the free games in our Play Zone, including the Climate Brain Blast.
- A climate championship keeps the Olympiad's motivation but scores real action.
- ICLC combines daily quizzes with teacher-verified tasks over 11 days.
- Rankings run from school to national level, with awards for students and schools.
